1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang, Kyung-wha had a phone conversation with Secretary of State of the United States of America Mike Pompeo on the morning of May 6th, Wednesday, and discussed COVID-19 situations in their countries and cooperative measures, the Korean Peninsula situation, and current issues between the Republic of Korea and the U.S.
2. Secretary Pompeo congratulated the ROK’s successful implementation of the parliamentary election on April 15th, and expressed appreciation to the ROK for sharing information and closely working together on COVID-19. Minister Kang explained that although the number of new COVID-19 cases has been dropping with few cases of community transmission in recent days, the ROK government is not letting its guard down, while asking the people to thoroughly comply with routine prevention measures. She went on to say that the ROK will continue to actively share its COVID-19 response experience with the U.S. and the international community.
3. The
two sides shared the view that the ROK and the U.S. have deepened their
cooperation in a mutually beneficial way, and agreed to strengthen bilateral
cooperation in various areas, including COVID-19 response, based on the
rock-solid ROK-U.S. Alliance.
