Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Sei-young had a telephone conversation with United States Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun on February 27, and explained in detail the measures the government of the Republic of Korea is taking to respond to the COVID-19 outbreak in Korea based on its strong diagnostic capacity and firm will to proactively contain the spread of the virus.
o In particular, Vice Minister Cho explained that the ROK government has been providing relevant information to the public in a prompt and transparent manner at home and abroad, while implementing containment policy based on science, thus contributing to effective containment of the virus.
2. In
addition, Vice Minister Cho asked the U.S. to refrain from taking excessive
measures that could unnecessarily dampen exchanges between the two countries. They
agreed to continue close communication and cooperation to effectively respond
to the COVID-19 situation.
