1. The Government of the Republic of Korea hails Bahraini King Hamad’s decisions on November 23
to set up a National Commission on protecting human rights in Bahrain and to strengthen the rule of
law, in line with the outcome of the inquiry into protests in the country conducted by the Bahrain
Independent Commission of Inquiry as well as its recommendations.
* The Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry, a group of non-Bahrainis formed by King Hamad’s
decree to look into protests in the country that occurred in February-March 2011, conducted a five-month-
long probe starting from July 20.
* On November 23, the Commission of Inquiry revealed the outcome of the inquiry, confirming the brutal
repression of protests and human rights abuses by the government as well as the role of the violence
of protesters in worsening the situation. The group recommended establishing an independent and
fair National Commission and interrogating those who had engaged in illegal activities during the protests.
2. The Government of the Republic of Korea expects that the recommendations of the Commission of
Inquiry will be implemented in an orderly manner, contributing to national reconciliation and development.
