1. Minister for Trade Mr. Hwang Doo-yun and Mrs. Soledad Alvear, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of
Chile, examined the progress made in the Korea-Chile FTA negotiations so far and discussed the direction
for future negotiations.
2. Ministers shared the view that the Korea-Chile FTA has great significance as it is the first FTA concluded
between an East Asian country and a Southern American country. They agreed that the conclusion of this
FTA would be beneficial to both countries and that it would provide an momentum for the further
development of bilateral relations. Both sides confirmed that there has been great progress, as more than
80% of the agreement was agreed upon through four negotiations. They also agreed to positively consider
plans to have high-level talks on the concession schedule in the future. The specific timing and venue for the
high-level meeting will be discussed through diplomatic channels.
